Rules and Terms

Participants

Participants may be any Salvadoran by birth or naturalized living in the country.

Student Video Category

Active students from any educational center in El Salvador, whether public or private, high school or university, may register their videos for the festival, depending on the subcategory registered under Student Video.

The video must be made by the students, with the possibility of adult or external participation, as actors or supervisors.

The video can be an individual or group work.

There is no age limit to apply, the only requirement is to be an active student of a secondary academic institution or university.

Salvadoran Film Category

Works and projects elaborated by Salvadoran residents in the country, with previous experience in audiovisual production, will be accepted.

Collective Film Category

Participants may be established collectives, foundations, NGOs and others whose work is focused on the recognition of social problems, environmental rescue, participation of minority groups, etc.

Distant Brother Film Category

Works and projects elaborated by Salvadoran residents in other countries, with or without previous experience in audiovisual production, will be accepted.

Formats

Only one product per participant or group of participants will be accepted in the following formats:

Student Video Category

Short Film (Fiction, Documentary, Experimental)

Salvadoran Film Category

Short Film (Fiction, Documentary, Experimental)

Collective Film Category

Short Film (Fiction, Documentary, Experimental)

Distant Brother Film Category

Short Film (Fiction, Documentary, Experimental)

Theme

The theme of the video is free and can be either an original idea or a free adaptation.

If the project is an adaptation of a story in another format, the copyright transfer to the production group or its validation as public domain must be presented, otherwise the project will be disqualified.

The project must not glorify or celebrate violence or discrimination.

Video clips, advertising or propaganda clips will not be accepted.

The video may be made especially for this festival or may have been created previously (during 2022/23) for another purpose, didactic or otherwise, and must be unpublished.

Runtime

Student Video Category

Productions in the Student Video Category, must have a maximum duration of 30 minutes, including credits. Exceeding this time limit will result in the automatic disqualification of the short films in the pre-selection stage.

Salvadoran Film, Collective Film and Distant Brother Film Categories

Productions in the Salvadoran Film, Collective Film and Distant Brother Film Categories must have a maximum duration of 40 minutes, including credits. Exceeding this time limit will result in the automatic disqualification of the short films in the pre-selection stage.

Submission

Participants must submit entries in high quality format (1080p or 4K), in H.264 compression format.

A link will be provided to upload or share the complete project, promotional poster, five representative stills in high resolution, technical file with names and complete data, telephone number and main contact email, completed participation form and signed participation and screening rights, resume and videography of the producer, director, collective or production team.

Jury

The Jury will be made up of representatives of different specialties who do not belong to the organizing or participating institutions, with the exception of state entities.

The jury will be composed of distinguished personalities, including filmmakers, producers, critics and experts in the areas of film, art and culture.

Evaluation Method

The evaluation methodology is determined by specific parameters specific to the audiovisual product in a score from 1 to 10, where each parameter qualifies a relevant area or category.

The evaluation rubric is shared only with the members of the jury.

The specific parameters with the highest score will be awarded according to their areas.

The FECIVES organizers will select the members of the Jury, which will be composed of three (3) members in the Student Video category and three (3) members in the Salvadoran Film and Collective Film categories.

The deliberations of the Juries will be secret, adopting their decisions by simple majority. Any possible conflict of operation not foreseen in these regulations will be resolved by the organizers of FECIVES.

The decision of all juries shall be final.

Exhibition

The participation of the productions implies agreement with the diffusion within the Festival, including its external activities, in different spaces and media.

The members of the selected works must accept and concede the exhibition rights of the short films for future exhibitions organized by the festival (workshops, festivals, TV channels, etc.) on a non-profit basis.

FECIVES may withdraw at any time any film or short film that does not comply with any of the rules of these regulations. Likewise, falsification of the participants' data will result in immediate elimination from the festival.

Call for Submissions

The opening of the Festival will take place on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, where the jury and the additional activities that will accompany the Festival will be announced.

Registration

The online entry form must be completed. Only one (1) video per entry will be accepted (i.e. two students cannot enter the same video even if they were part of the same team).

Registration will be open throughout the month of December 2023.

Awards

The FECIVES Awards Gala will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

Terms and Conditions

Participation in the Festival implies the acceptance of these rules by all participants.

Any eventuality that may arise during the Festival or its preparation, and that is not considered in these regulations, will be resolved by the organizers.

Any entry that does not contain all the requested elements will not be accepted.

The contestant videos must comply with the time requirements, exceeding the limit implies the disqualification of the works by the Festival's selection committee.

The participant declares, acknowledges and assures that the work submitted is his/her own work and that it does not violate the copyright, trademark, moral rights, privacy/publicity rights or intellectual property rights of any person or entity.

FECIVES and Fundación COMUNARTES, as organizers, shall have the right to exhibit the works submitted in any media.

The participant authorizes the reproduction of the videos (total or partial) in air and cable TV channels, as well as on the Internet for the purposes of the festival, excluding any other use.

The short films submitted will be uploaded to the YouTube account of the FECIVES festival, after the exhibition.
